Program Information
Admission and Progression Requirements, and all Program Requirements can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog. Please see the information below:
Majors
Physics, BA
he Bachelor of Art degree is appropriate for students seeking an in-depth understanding of physics within the context of a broader education. This curriculum allows the greatest freedom in choosing electives offered by other departments, and is ideal for students wishing to pursue double majors, matching physics with another discipline.
Physics, BS
The Bachelor of Science degree is appropriate for students planning to pursue physics as a professional career, either immediately after graduation in a physics-related industry or after graduate study in physics or a related field.
Dual Degrees
Physics and Computer Engineering, BS Dual Degree
Physics and Electrical Engineering, BS Dual Degree
The Department of Physics and Optical Science offers two dual degree opportunities with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. These dual degrees are designed to broaden and enhance the education of students in engineering degree programs. Students can obtain a BS Physics and BS Electrical Engineering dual degree or a BS Physics and BS Computer Engineering dual degree.
Physics and Mechanical Engineering, BS Dual Degree
The Department of Physics and Optical Science and the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science offer a dual degree designed to broaden and enhance the education of students in mechanical engineering and physics degree programs. Students can obtain a BS in Physics and a BS in Mechanical Engineering dual degree.
Minors
Physics, Minor
A Minor in Physics requires a minimum of 17 credit hours of physics courses.
Honors Program
Physics, Honors Program
The Department of Physics and Optical Science offers a research-based honors program for undergraduate students. Students must complete a senior research project and maintain a minimum GPA in physics. To find out more about the Honors Program, talk to an undergraduate advisor in the Department.
Early Entry
Exceptional undergraduate students attending UNC Charlotte are encouraged to apply to graduate programs and begin work toward their graduate degree before completion of the baccalaureate degree. Graduate program opportunities through the Department of Physics and Optical Science include an MS in Applied Physics, an MS in Optical Science and Engineering, and a PhD in Optical Science and Engineering. Early Entry students get a head start on their graduate degree and can potentially double count credits.
